Darn

Darn is a sewing machine on your Playdate, and the crank is its hand wheel.

The needle feeds forward on its own and you steer it with the crank. Sew freely, or let the machine stitch a pattern and turn the crank while it sews to bend it into something that's yours.

Then the town walks in. Mrs. Okafor just wants it to hold. Mrs. Vance counts every stitch. Pip wants a dinosaur on his knee patch. Thread costs coins, so wobbling isn't free. And the crank is loose. Everyone notices.

In the shop

• Take jobs from the queue: tears, hems, patches, buttons
• Garment jobs: cut the piece out with snipping scissors, then sew the seam on the machine. The needle stays put and the crank turns the cloth
• Pick the right presser foot. Stretchy jersey without a walking foot puckers
• Close up at the end of the day: the ledger shows the day's jobs, pay and thread, and Bobbin the cat sleeps through all of it

In your hoops

• Free sewing on a blank hoop, steered with the crank
• Quick Sew: six patterns with fill, placed and resized anywhere, even half off the hoop
• 24 templates to sew over at your own pace, from a heart to a mandala, some with areas to fill
• Today's prompt: one phrase a day, one hoop
• Keep everything in your gallery and export PNGs

Controls

• Crank: steer (needle, scissors or cloth)
• Ⓐ: go / stop
• Ⓑ: stop, or back
• D-pad: place the needle, lift the scissors, choose
• Menu: Quick Sew, new hoop, save PNG, music on/off

Install

1. Download Darn.pdx.zip.
2. Go to play.date/account/sideload and upload it.
3. On your Playdate: Settings → Games → refresh. Darn appears in your library.
